Get ready for cute.
Get ready for cute.
I know some of us have been bombarded with boy bands lately (ie: One Direction) but these are my babies. They call themselves “The Boyz.” They rehearse on their own time, find the music for the songs themselves and are totally self-led. As parents, you should all admire this, because not only is it nearly impossible to get boys to sing, it’s nearly impossible to get any teenager to do something on their own accord. These kids are a major source of happiness for me at work!
So, this post is going to be about parenting but not directly.
I teach High School Chorus in a public school. Last Wednesday, I took 2 of my students to audition for All-VA chorus. This is only open to Juniors and Seniors who have qualified for District Chorus. One of the two that auditioned qualified and is going to All State! I have a state singer in my group! She is 1 of 16 that were chosen to represent the district and 1 of 4 students in her voice part to be chosen. I am beyond proud!
I was an all-state singer for both my Junior and Senior years in high school, both of my sisters were all-state singers and my brother (a senior in high school) has completed the “legacy” and is going to all state this year, too. We were approached about having an article on our family written for the local newspaper, that would be pretty cool.
I am quite obviously not my student’s parent but I can’t describe the pride I felt in reading her name at the top of the delegate list. It was like she was my own child, both she and my brother…weird, but true.
I love my job!
Christmas is in 6 days!!!
